Guitar Club and Information and Form

A lunch time guitar club for students in grades 3 and 4. Beginner folk guitar.

On Monday, November 14, the Elbow Valley Guitar Club will start. This club is open to students who are in grades 3 and 4 who are interested in learning to play. Students will learn basic chording, strumming and how to hold and care for the instrument.

This club will meet during one lunch period per week, Monday. On that day, students will come to the music room with their lunches. While they are eating, I will teach and demonstrate the concepts and skills for that week. When the students have finished their lunches, they will have time to practice the skills.

Your child must have his/her own guitar for the sessions. I recommend a ¾ size steel string for most students. You may purchase a guitar on your own, use your own or buy one through the school. ($150.00 guitar and padded bag). If you would like to use a guitar you already own I will need to see it to make sure it’s suitable and to put colour stickers on it for the chords.

On club days, guitars must be brought to school first thing in the morning so I have time to tune them. Please assume the responsibility for fixing broken strings at home. Guitar club will be cancelled on weeks when Monday is a holiday as well as the last week in December and the first week in January. It will end sometime in March, TBA.

If your child is interested in participating in the club please either drop me a little note or complete and return the form. This will ensure I copy enough music.

If you are interested in ordering a guitar through the school please complete the pertinent sections of the form.  Make sure payment is enclosed. Order forms need to be IN the music room by Tuesday, October 3. Guitars take about a month to arrive.

Guitar Club students will be invited to take part in our annual Musicfest at the Jubilee Auditorium in May 2014.

Parents are welcome to join the group to learn or help.
