Grade 2 Self-Esteem Program: Free The Horses

Free The Horses: A Self-Esteem Adventure strives to teach children they can choose how to think and how to act in ways that build positive selfesteem. By teaching children important core beliefs and actions, we will be instilling in them the foundation upon which high self-esteem can be built. This is not a quick-fix program and children may not leave the lessons feeling strongly about themselves. They will though begin developing a set of values and behaviours that when reinforced by teachers and parents and practiced by themselves will lead to positive self-esteem. The program is arranged around 11 sets of core beliefs and actions. They include thinking I can do it, choosing what I think, feeling, doing, belonging, learning, contributing, courage, responsibility, cooperation and self-esteem. The vehicle chosen for teaching these concepts is unique and of high interest to children; it is a continuing adventure story which takes place in a medieval kingdom. Students watch part of a video which introduces the concept of each lesson, them through discussions and activities the concepts are reinforced. With each lesson you will receive a Parent Note which will both keep you informed about the progress of the adventure and offer ideas for reinforcing the concepts that are introduced. In this way we can work together to help your child develop an important sense of high self-esteem
